Purpose

This slow reveal is designed to support analysis and discussion of both the data and the design choices. The questions in the slide deck (English) invite learners to examine trends, relationships, and possible interpretations. This graph invites students to the estimate and compare values, deal with large numbers, consider percentage and fractional values, compare count and rate, and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of different graphic representations.

Follow-Up Assignment/Travail de suivi

There is a follow-up handout for students to wrestle with the ideas of using a total count or a rate (e.g. per 100,000) or percentage to compare values across time. It is recommended for grades 7 – 10+.
