Countries That Pay Their Olympic Gold Medalists The Most (Paris 2024)
graph by Julie Peasley; slow reveal by Jenna Laib
Type of Graph: Bar Graph
Purpose
This slow reveal is designed to support analysis and discussion of both the data and the design choices. The questions in the slide deck invite learners to examine trends, relationships, and possible interpretations. This slow reveal focuses on estimating values of large numbers (hundreds of thousands), and also writing comparison statements. Students in grade 3 might write statements comparing two or more values additively, while students in grade 4 or older might try writing statements that involve multiplicative comparisons, e.g. ___ is about three times more than ____.
Lastly, students in upper elementary grades could use multiplication to determine the total amount of monetary awards different countries paid out after the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics.
